Tobin-White claims first professional victory

It was a big weekend for the VIS and coach Danielle Stefano with her young charges featuring in the major races in Asia.

 

Joel Tobin White claimed his first professional win at the Subic Bay Asian Cup in the Phillipines.

 

Meanwhile Matt Baker was agonisingly close to a podium finish, placing fourth at the ITU World Cup Chengdu in China. Baker gritted his teeth in the final stages of the run leg as a large chase group of seven athletes battled for the minor placing’s and vital ranking points.

 

“Stoked with 4th! Hats off to Danielle Stefano getting me into shape and huge thanks to my VIS boys. Glad to be part of the team,” said Baker.

 

Striving for more success, Baker stated his next ambition is to make his way onto the podium.

 

Conditions in Chengdu were perfect for racing, starting with a relatively cool 17 degrees Celsius and rising to 24 degrees by the end of the race distance.

 

Fellow VIS athlete Marcel Walkington gave it his all and was content with placing 20th in the strong international field. Declan Wilson unfortunately DNF.
