Matildas remain undefeated in Olympic qualifying

Friday, 04 March 2016

The Matildas have continued their unbeaten run on the road to Rio, notching up their third straight win against the Korea Republic, 2-0, on Friday night.

Coming off a 3-1 win against Japan and a dominant 9-0 performance against Vietnam last week, VIS athletes Steph Catley and Lisa De Vanna again played crucial roles in the team’s success.

De Vanna was dangerous up front, providing two assists, and narrowly missing another chance as the co-captain led by example.

Defender Steph Catley also proved useful as she slid a ball in for substitute Caitlin Foord to produce a clinical finish that was later called offside.

The side will regroup ahead of their remaining two clashes against DPR Korea and China PR next week, needing to finish in the top two of the group to gain Olympic qualification.
