Hockeyroos lose to Netherlands
Saturday, 23 January 2016
The Australian women's hockey team has suffered a 4-1 loss to The Netherlands in their final match of the TPG International Tri-Series in Singapore.
The Hockeyroos were looking for redemption on Saturday after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the world No.1 Dutch side earlier in the week, but were unable to maintain the strong defence they displayed in the opening 15 minutes.
After the Netherlands put the first point on the board with a penalty corner in the 21st minute, Australian forward Emily Smith brought the score line even in the 47th minute. However, five minutes before the final siren, The Netherlands scored twice within two minutes of each other, putting the game out of reach.
VIS athletes Rachael Lynch, Georgia Nanscawen, Ashlee Wells and Laura Barden were members of the Australian team.
In other hockey news, the women's National Junior Squad, “the Jillaroos”, have successfully qualified for the 2016 Junior World Cup after defeating New Zealand in 3 matches on the Gold Coast last week. VIS athletes Sophie Taylor, Olivia Colasurdo and Madi Ratcliffe were members of the squad.
