Holman takes out Australian PGA

Monday, 07 December 2015

VIS golfer Nathan Holman has won the Australian PGA Championship in a dramatic finish at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

The VIS scholarship holder went into the final day as the highest placed Australian and well within reach of engraving his name on the Kirkwood Cup.

After bogeying his final two holes, Holman ended the day tied for the lead with South African Dylan Frittelli and American Harold Varner III on even par 288.

The trio entered a playoff with only one trip down the 18th required to determine the winner.

The 24-year-old from Parkdale held his nerve during the playoff to emerge victorious securing his first win as a Professional.

Besides the healthy prize cheque and the prestige which comes with a top shelf Australian win the victory also opens the door to the main stage of world golf.

Nathan will receive exemption on the European Tour for the remainder of 2016 season followed by 2017. He also receives a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour of Australasia and an invitation to the 2016 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

Perhaps most importantly the win also sees Holman secure the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit and the reward is an invitation to The Open Championship 14-17 July at Royal Troon in Scotland.
