Hockey Australia announce Olympic training squads

Hockey Australia has announced its men’s and women’s national senior squads which will prepare for the Rio Olympics next August.

The women’s squad has four VIS athletes including Rachael Lynch, Georgia Nanscawen, Ashlee Wells and Laura Barden.

Barden only recently made her senior international debut for the Hockeyroos against Korea in Perth in September and has been elevated from the 2015 National Development Squad into the Olympic training squad.

Young guns Sam Snow, Hayley Padget, Meg Pearce and Madi Ratcliffe were named in the National Development Squad and Ratcliffe has been awarded a Hockey Australia scholarship to train full time alongside the national senior squad in Perth.

The men’s squad contains two VIS athletes, Chris Ciriello and Andrew Philpott. London Olympic bronze medallist Ciriello is aiming for his second Olympic berth, while Philpott is vying for selection to his first Olympic Games.

Hockey Australia has also named its 11-man 2016 National Development Squad which includes VIS athletes Kiran Arunasalam and Tim Cross.
