The VIS exists to provide Victoria’s elite athletes with a high performance environment allowing them the opportunity to become the best athletes they can be.

The VIS currently supports over 400 athletes on scholarship, across 55 sports including able-bodied and athletes with a disability.

The basic philosophy of the VIS is embodied in its motto “Success in Sport and Life”. Athletes are encouraged to adopt a balanced approach to sporting excellence by developing their life skills, education and career prospects along with their sport.

The calibre of athletes who have received, or who are currently receiving, VIS support include Robert Allenby and Aaron Baddeley (golf), Peter Antonie and the Oarsome Foursome (rowing), Danielle Woodward (slalom canoeing), Steve Moneghetti, Catherine Freeman and Jana Rawlinson (athletics), Daniel Kowalski and Matt Welsh (swimming),  Sarah Fitz-Gerald (squash), Tom King and Mark Turnbull (sailing), Katie Mactier (cycling) and many other notable State, National and World Champions.
