The VIS has always supported the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) principles of "pure performance" which are aimed at protecting the integrity of sport through the elimination of doping.

In 2008 the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) released an updated World Anti-Doping Code ("Code"), effective 1 January 2009. Subsequently, the VIS has amended its Anti-Doping Policy to ensure it remains fully compliant with the latest international regulations and procedures and this has now been approved by ASADA and adopted by the VIS Board.

The revised VIS Anti-Doping Policy came into effect 16 September 2009.

The changes from the earlier Policy are many and varied, from minor refinements to wording, to the inclusion of entire new sections. It is the responsibility of all athletes, coaches, staff and service providers to be familiar with the policy and their responsibilities under it.
