Horton heats up in Hawaii

VIS junior distance swimmer Mack Horton (Melbourne Vicentre) proved to be a force to be reckoned with at the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In the final of the men’s1500m freestyle, Horton stormed home to take the title and a new meet record in 15:10.07, while in the 400m freestyle final, the VIS scholarship holder kept up the pace and a superb touch on the wall enabled him to steal the silver in 3:52.26.

At just 16 years old, Horton is gaining a reputation as one to watch on the junior elite scene.

In the women’s 100m backstroke, VIS swimmer Kotuku Ngawati (Melbourne Vicentre) came home strongly to touch just outside of the medals in 1:02.72, while fellow VIS scholarship holder Samantha Wilkins (Haileybury Waterlions) finished sixth in the B final in 1:03.83.
