VIS Olympian Matson Lawson will pay a special visit to the Edge Swimming Club in Baranduda, 13 kilometres south of Wodonga, this Sunday as part of EnergyAustralia GO Swim Month.
The Olympic 200m backstroker will run a training session, sign autographs, talk about his swimming journey and compete in a series of novelty races against aspiring young swimmers.
Hype around Lawson’s visit has been building according to Club President Sally Whitehouse, with over 30 children expected to attend on the day.
‘We have never had someone of Matson’s calibre come to the club and it will be the first time that many of our members have met an Olympian,’ said Whitehouse.
Lawson said it’s great to have the opportunity to visit a swimming club that’s passionate about growing the sport.
EnergyAustralia Director, Adrian Merrick, a proud supporter of GO Swim Month, said creating a vibrant and enjoyable club culture is important in developing Australia’s future swimming stars.
EnergyAustralia GO Swim days will continue throughout October, for more information on how to join a club or get involved in GO Swim activities, visit www.goswim.org.au
Lawson will be at the Edge Swimming Club from 10:00am onwards on Sunday 21st October.
