VIS Speaker Programs

The VIS has worked closely with the community and corporations since its beginning in 1990.

Throughout their careers, our elite athletes accumulate a variety of expertise to achieve their goals. Having proven their commitment, dedication and passion to achieve their own dreams, successful athletes can be very powerful and positive influences in encouraging others to reach their full potential.

The VIS currently runs three different role model programs, each varying in style to suit your next corporate event or school presentation.

Our athletes address topics such as:

• Overcoming set-backs and adversity
• Achieving a balanced lifestyle
• Physical activity and nutrition as part of an active and healthy lifestyle
• Succeeding at the Olympics, Paralympics and other elite sporting events

Athlete Speaker Program

The VIS is home to a huge stable of sports stars including Olympians, Paralympians and Vixen netballers. Many have extraordinary stories to share with you and, importantly, you can book these speakers at the most reasonable rates in Australia.

Our athletes have won Olympic and Commonwealth Games medals, World Championships and World Cups.

They are high achievers who have triumphed over the most adverse circumstances and have learnt valuable lessons in life which they are willing to share with your school, corporate or community group.

Income received for speaking engagements is paid to the athletes to assist with their sporting endeavours.

In 2013 we are also able to offer corporate in house packages which include a tour of our world class facilities with one of our elite athletes, a motivational talk by an Olympian or Paralympian, a session with one of our leading nutritionists and an exercise workout with our strength and conditioning people.

VIS Facility Tour

The VIS Facility Tour provides schools, community groups, sporting clubs and corporate organisations with the opportunity to tour one of the world’s leading sporting facilities at  the new Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.

VIS athletes won 15 medals at the London Olympics, this is your chance to visit the facility where they train and prepare to compete against the best.

Our tours are conducted by VIS elite athletes and run for at least 90 minutes. They include:

• A visit to our high performance areas where athletes are often “at work”
• A talk about the Athlete Services which support our people in the field
• A Sports Science  DVD
• Some light physical exercise and a discussion about health and fitness.
• Handouts from our Nutrition Department and a discussion about diet.
• A mock media conference providing insights into the media pressure on sports stars
• A  Q and A session with the elite athlete conducting the tour.
• A handout with tips about staying active while you study or work.

A tour can also be tailored to cater for the specific interests of an organisation (eg with an emphasis on Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning or a vocation in sport).

The S.P.O.R.T Crew

The following information will provide you with the background and philosophy on The S.P.O.R.T Crew (Sports People on Real Topics) and demonstrate how your school can become involved. This program is free to government secondary and primary schools.

Background
The S.P.O.R.T Crew is an initiative of the Department of Education & Training and conducted in partnership with the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS). It is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to encourage participation in sport and physical activity. The S.P.O.R.T Crew aims to promote the value of an active and healthy lifestyle by utilising elite level athletes as role models.

The Program
The S.P.O.R.T Crew is available to both primary and secondary government schools across regional and metropolitan Victoria. Each successful school will receive 2-3 visits by a nominated VIS athlete, with each visit running for up to one hour.

There is no cost involved, however, it is essential to indicate on the submission form how the program will enhance your school’s curriculum program, in particular, how it will be used to promote active participation in sport. The program is not designed to provide coaching sessions, however students may have the opportunity to participate in activities relating to the athletes’ sport. Many of the athletes involved in The S.P.O.R.T Crew have represented Australia at the Olympic or Paralympic Games and are able to provide the students with rare insights into the minds and aspirations of sporting champions.
