STINGERS WIN BRONZE

The Aussie Stingers survived near calamity at the end of regulation time to claim bronze against Hungary in the women's water polo at the London Olympics.

Australia won 13-11 but needed a pair of goals in extra-time to ensure back-to-back bronze medals in a mirror result to Beijing four years ago.

Hungary sensationally tied scores at 11-11 in the last second of normal time after a desperate  Alicia McCormack made a huge blunder with seconds remaining as the Australians needed only to maintain possession.

Australia seemed to cruising in the second term holding a 7-3 lead with two minutes remaining but were pegged back to a goal-lead in the third quarter.

Australian held Hungary at arm's length for most of the fourth quarter before the late error.

Congratulations to VIS scholarship holders Rowie Webster and Vic Brown on winning a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
