Densham takes bronze in thrilling triathlon finish

VIS triathlete Erin Densham won the bronze medal in a pulsating Olympic women's triathlon at London's Hyde Park.

The race came down to a tight finish at the end of the closing 10km run leg between Densham, Switzerland's Nicola Spirig and Swede Lisa Norden, who regularly trains in Australia.

Densham lost contact in the finishing straight, while Spirig and Norden crossed the line locked together. Spirig just edged out Norden for the gold medal, clocking one hour 59 minutes and 48 seconds, with Densham two seconds behind.

The Australian women have won a medal in each Olympics since triathlon made it Games debut in 2000.

It capped an outstanding year for Densham, who was at long odds to even make the three-woman Australian Olympic team in February.
