VIS juniors shine at Worlds

The VIS cycling contingent has wrapped up a successful UCI Junior Track World Championships campaign, returning from New Zealand with a medal haul of four gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

Australia, featuring VIS riders Evan Hull, Jack Cummings and Alex Morgan, grabbed the gold in the men’s 4000m team pursuit.

In the men’s team sprint final, Australia had to settle for the silver medal behind Russia.  The Aussies, featuring VIS riders Emerson Harwood, Jacob Schmid and Zac Shaw rode a world record in the qualifying round but were relegated to second place after they changed “out of the zone” on the first lap in the final.

VIS cyclist Zac Shaw produced a huge personal best to clock 1:02.303 in winning the men’s kilometre time trial.

Alex Morgan beat Jon Dibben (GBR) in the third and fourth race of the men’s individual pursuit to claim the bronze medal.

In the men’s sprint the VIS finished with the trifecta, with gold going to Jacob Schmid over Emerson Harwood 2-1, while Zachary Shaw claimed bronze.

Outstanding sprinter Jacob Schmid added the keirin gold to his sprint crown, with team mate Emerson Harwood crossing for silver.

In the women’s events, Caitlin Ward took silver in the sprint and bronze in the team sprint.
