Evans shows he is still a champion

VIS scholarship holder Cadel Evans has put in a great effort to record back to back second placings after Stage 8 of the Tour de France.

The defending Champion led a breakaway group through the mountains of Switzerland trying to chase down Thibaut Pinot of France, but the young Frenchman was too strong, streaking away for his maiden stage win.

Bradley Wiggins continues to hold the yellow jersey by 10 seconds over Evans ahead of tonight’s 41.5km individual time trial from Arc-et-Senans to Besancon.

Evans is hanging on in the Tour de France with all the dogged determination expected of the VIS scholarship holder.

VIS rider Matt Lloyd (Lampre-ISD) went to hospital for X-rays on his elbow overnight. Lloyd is unsure whether he will continue in the race.
