Juniors taste success on world stage


VIS Track & Field athletes competing at the IAAF Junior World Championships bring home a bronze medal and 2 Top Eight Performances.

Damien Birkinhead’s form as one of the up and coming stars of the sport continued in Barcelona as he set a new Australian record of 21.14m for the Shot Put (6kg) on his way to collecting the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships.

Fellow VIS athletes Luke Cann and Brooke Stratton returned Top 8 performances with Luke finishing seventh in the Javelin (70.15m) and Brooke finishing seventh in the Long Jump (6.42m).

In London, VIS Olympic athletes had their final competition before the Games, at the Crystal Palace Diamond League meet.  Collis Birmingham set a new personal best of 13:09.57 for the 5000m finishing in second place, while Craig Mottram finished seventh in 13:23.85.

In the 1500m Kaila McKnight finished eighth in 4:10.49, while Zoe Buckman finished ninth in 4:12.82.
